South Pacific remake
July 12th, 2010 admin
There’s going to be a remake of South Pacific, although this one is described as a harder edged version of the original, but with all the same songs, or at least the well known ones. The Rogers and Hammerstein 1949 musical was a huge success and was followed by the 1958 film directed by Joshua Logan who was involved with the musical from the beginning. They made famous such songs as Some Enchanted Evening and There Is Nothin’ Like a Dame….Visit Filmstalker for the full story. Restricted feeds to protect content.

It wouldn’t take a betting person to place a bet on Hollywood never being able to remake Oldboy (Filmstalker review) , whatever the reason, but when Steven Spielberg and Will Smith were announced as being involved in the production, and more than that started seriously talking about moving it forward, I was flabbergasted. However it looks like...

Lionel Jeffries, the man who wrote and directed the classic film The Railway Children, has died. The Railway Children is one of my father’s favourite films of all time, but Jeffries is not just famous for that, he has a few other well known films to his writing and directing career, and a list of famous film and television appearances….Visit...

After being chastised by Noel Clarke for my comments on the previous 4.3.2.1 promo teaser, although I do stand by them, I started playing the second trailer for the film with some hope and anticipation. There’s definitely more of a story focus to the trailer, although I still think there’s a stronger cut of the trailer to be had, however...

On one hand I’m glad that a remake of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is going to stay true to the original and keep the musical style of the film, and on the other I’m a little disappointed, perhaps we needed a modernised version of the film that looks at the real life hardships of a whorehouse? Maybe we’ll get both. What is...

Timur Bekmambetov is the man who successfully brought us the first two parts of the excellent Watch series, Night Watch: Nochnoi Dozor (Filmstalker review) and Day Watch: Dnevnoy dozor (Filmstalker review) and is set to bring the third in the series some time in the future. He also directed the exciting Wanted (Filmstalker review). For a while he’s...

The new, full theatrical trailer for I Spit on Your Grave has arrived online, and I’m not seeing anything better than the first to be honest. With the first I was really concerned it was going to turn into a Hostel (Filmstalker review) type film focussing just on the woman torturing and killing men, and it seems that’s the way the trailer...

The casting has begun on Rise of the Apes, the modern prequel and complete rewrite of the beginning of the apes taking over the world that lead to the franchise of Planet of the Apes. There’s only one name involved so far, but it’s a strong casting and a central role, although since it’s not yet clear exactly how much of the film...

The three main roles are cast, Russell Brand is playing Arthur, Helen Mirren his butler and Greta Gerwig the woman he falls for, the roles made famous by Dudley Moore, Sir John Gielgud and Liza Minelli respectively. Now there’s word of two more roles in negotiations, that of the woman Brand’s character is being forced to marry, and the...

It was back in May 2007 that we heard The Osterman Weekend, the Robert Ludlum novel directed by Sam Peckinpah in 1983 was to be remade. Back then a director had been chosen, although he was a strong writer it was to be his directorial début. Since then there has been no news, until now. Word is that the remake is alive once again and that a new director...

Zack Snyder has been talking about Xerxes, the prequel to 300 and has revealed that he’s been involved in writing the screenplay for a week or so now, not only that but he tells us about the plot and what the film will look like, if he directs it. That’s an important thing to note right now because while he’s only involved in writing...
