Will keep fans company, but wonÂ’t win over any newcomers. Most bands, even very good bands, have a shelf life of ten to fifteen years, tops. There are the defiantly successful exceptions, like U2 or The Rolling Stones—and IÂ’m hedging on Radiohead being around for awhile longer—but the vast majority ride the wave of momentum as far as it will take them and then drift off into an obscurity peppered with intermittent VH1 appearances. And this makes sense. Rock is a game for the young. ThereÂ’s another category though: the bands that just plain re … Video Bad Company: Hard Rock Live was shot natively on high definition video, and while the image doesnÂ’t look bad , per se, the discÂ’s 1080i/AVC-encoded transfer is certainly not the prettiest concert experience available on Blu-ray. Most noticeable is the…

Rush: R30 (Blu-ray Review)
Without Canadian rockers Rush progressive rock would have been a very different animal. Bands such as Marillion, Asia, Queensryche, Mercyful Fate, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Ayreon, Symphony X, Angra, Savatage, and countless other rock bands probably would have not existed. Entire rock sub-genres probably would have not existed. Rush was formed...
Chickenfoot: Get Your Buzz On, Live (Blu-ray Review)
If you follow the rock scene closely, then you have to admit that the more things change, the more they stay the same – the great bands that we listened to some 25-30 years ago that are still around are the ones that still produce the best rock albums. So far this this year some of the best rock albums have come from old-…  Read More →

Marilyn Manson: Guns, God and Government – Live in L.A. (Blu-ray Review)
When Guns, God and Government – Live in L.A. was initially released on DVD in 2002, the visual content was assembled from a number of different shows Marilyn Manson staged around the world. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band: London Calling: Live In Hyde Park (Blu-ray Review)
The Boss delivers a blistering performance before an immense crowd at London’s Hyde Park. My wife, who has seen Bruce Springsteen live in concert three times, has informed me the only way to properly recreate a live Springsteen concert experience is to make The Boss an indistinguishable blob seen from a long way away. Luckily that perhaps sad...

Rocker: Born to Rock Edition (Blu-ray Review)
To quote a one hit wonder band, you’ll “Feel it Again” with ‘The Rocker.’ By which I mean you’ve seen this all before in other, usually better, films. Is there any other profession (if you can call it that) that has dashed as many dreams as “rock star”? Here in Portland, Oregon, the home of a rather burgeoning...

Rock ‘N’ Roll High School (Roger Corman’s Cult Classics) (Blu-ray Review)
It has that one song that was in Rock Band! A shameless display of adolescent abandon. Rock ‘N’ Roll High School , huh? It’s not Fast Times at Ridgemont High , but it’s a decent if not mostly disposable little high school Comedy that tackles the tough issues of…nothing really. A story of teenage rebellion and a big long...
