Winterbottom tackling Isreal and Palestine

January 22nd, 2010 admin

Michael Winterbottom is deciding to play it safe and easy with his next film, tackling a project that won’t be in the slightest bit controversial. Promised Land will be looking at the events that led to the 1948 segregation of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. Yes, you can see why that wouldn’t be a controversial topic to tackle, and why the film won’t be causing a fuss with people all over the world, particularly in Britain….Visit Filmstalker for the full story. Paranormal Activity 2 by Brian DePalma?
My instant reaction to this story is that someone is having a serious laugh at our expense, I mean the sequel to Paranormal Activity (Filmstalker review) directed by Brian DePalma, Akiva Goldsman, Brad Anderson or Greg McLean? It seems an insane rumour doesn’t it? Yet the site carrying the story is strong, and with the fuss about the director...
Emmerich talks Foundation
It was back in January that we heard Roland Emmerich was going to direct the adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series and lo, there was unhappiness. Emmerich has been famous for his big scale, huge effects, disaster films, and while they were huge on effects they’ve been light on characters and depth. So fans of the Asimov series...
Natali talks Neuromancer
The other day we heard the rumour that Vincenzo Natali, the writer/director of Splice (Filmstalker review), was set to tackle the much anticipated adaptation of William Gibson’s hugely influential novel Neuromancer (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com). Now he’s had the chance to come out and talk about his plans, and they are sounding rather positive,...
Virus ensemble film from Informant writer
Scott Z. Burns, who recently wrote The Informant, had been on the set of the film discussing with Steven Soderbergh a scene where one character sneezes and another complains about catching viruses, and as the topic wandered onto viruses they had a brainwave. An idea for a script was born. The story is being described as Traffic meets Outbreak, so...
Von Trier talks science fiction disaster film Melancholia
Lars von Trier’s next film seems to be well under way and the prospect of a science fiction disaster film called Melancholia from him is one that has eyebrows raised. It doesn’t sound like the kind of film he would normally tackle, but then do any of his films bring the word “normal” to the fore? Now we hear a little more about...
Film of the man who inspired Rambo and Colonel Kurtz
There’s going to be a film about the man who inspired both the Rambo character and that of Colonel Kurtz, a man who was the most decorated Green Beret during the Vietnam War and who even organised rescue raids to free kidnapped American prisoners of war from. The man eventually became a controversial conspiracy theorist, and in a recent story...
Broderick’s Wonderful World trailer online
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Matthew Broderick in a film that captures my interest, but Wonderful World might just be it. Okay, there’s an intense feeling of The Visitor (Filmstalker review) here, and in fact it feels almost too close to that story, but then that was a good film, and with Wonderful World they do seem to...
Red Dawn never to see dawn?
News this morning presents a worrying future for the newly remade Red Dawn, and while release dates moving, disappearing and reappearing is often nothing that exciting to write about as they change on a regular basis, for Red Dawn there’s something else that’s causing the concern. The film comes from MGM who are aren’t in the best...
I Love You Phillip Morris dumped in U.S. for being gay?
It seems that audiences across the world, including here in the UK, are much more accepting than those in America, or so it would seem according to those behind the recent Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor film, I Love You Phillip Morris. For the U.S. release of the film sounds as though it’s been dropped. Despite seeing releases around the world,...
Filmstalker Reader’s Top Tens 2009: Call for submissions
So far the interest in the Filmstalker Readers Top Tens for 2009 is low, and I need that to change, and we need you to do something about it. Submit your top ten of anything film related and see it published on Filmstalker. It’s easy enough, why not look back on last year’s lists to see just how easy it is and what people did for last...
